She received her undergraduate degree (Spanish) and doctoral degree (Audiology) from Ohio State University and completed her externship at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital. She spent the first part of her career at Indiana University working as a research and clinical audiologist and teaching undergraduate and graduate audiology courses.
